The Dig.
This is the title of the brand new movie available on the streaming platform Netflix.
On the eve of Second World War, the english countryside is about to be schocked with one of the most important acheological discovery of the english history: the finding of a ship structure of about 30 meter of lenght.
And not a normal vessel, but the funeral ship of King Raedwald, an Anglo-Saxon ruler of the seventh century.
But why am I talking this to you?
Because the most ancient buckle of the world has been found in this vessel and it is now exhibited at British Museum.

Until XIX century, belt buckles were mainly used as a male ornament, also in relation to the strong association with the military world, and then became fashionable at the beginning of the twentieth century.
But in this article I won't talk you about the different shapes of belt buckles because they are almost endless and it is useless for me to show you only some examples; I'll talk you about two variables that are stricltly related to the identity of your brand: raw materials and galvanic finish.
Raw materials are the first divide for your collection because depending on the price range of your brand we'll use buckle made of different materials.
If the price range of your belt brand is affordable we'll use zamak, a very ductile alloy, the material of which about 90% of the buckles are made. For your luxury brand I'll use primarily brass, as all high fashion brands do, and if your brand is extra luxury we'll use also silver and gold, the same material used for the buckle found in the funerary vessel and that it has been preserved intact after more than 1400 years.
The choice of the raw material doesn't affect the resistance and the aestethics of the buckle and of the belt, but only the renown and consequently the price range.
It doesn't affect either the color because as you may know the color of the buckle is determined by the galvanic treatment and about galvanics we can divide them into two groups: classic or sporty depending on the identity of your brand.

And it is precisely the choice of galvanic finish, or the color that covers the buckle, the second aspect we will work on, depending on the identity of your clothing or leather goods brand:
- classic brand: nickel, nickel brushed, light gold (also for women belt), gun metal and gun metal brushed.
- casual or sporty brand: american silver, old nickel, old brass and you can also choose some aged galvanic finish which had to undergo a special treatment with paints and then it has been aged and made vintage.
To conclude, depending on the identity of your brand and the price range of your made in Italy belt collection we'll choose the perfect buckles for you, to complete your belts and make a tailor made collection for your brand.
I'm not bothering you any further because in the next video I'll reveal you the reason why some zamak buckles breaks more easily than others.
